MPEG Audio Layer III, besser bekannt als MP3 ist ein Verfahren zur verlustbehafteten Kompression einer digital gespeicherten Audiodatei. Das MP3 Format ist eines der meist genutzten Audioformate. Es zeichnet sich durch eine sehr hohe Qualität bei gleichzeitig niedrigem Speicherbedarf aus. Zudem kann es von einem Großteil der Programme und Systeme erkannt und verarbeitet werden.

Beim Erstellen oder auch Abspeichern einer Datei sollte nach Möglichkeit das MP3 Format gewählt werden. Alternativ ist es möglich, andere Audioformate wie z.B. M4A (und mit dem richtigen Programm auch Videoformate wie MP4) in MP3 umzuwandeln.

Edit MP3 files

MP3 files can be edited in various ways. They can be converted to another audio format, cut, mixed, cleaned up (e.g. from noise) and much more. A free tool for this is, among others Audacity. Depending on the application, there are other useful programs and providers that are presented below.

Convert to MP3

MP3 files, like almost all other audio formats, can be easily converted with the right program. This can be done online via the browser using a service such as Online Audio Converter. You can convert an MP3 to another format or vice versa, another audio format (e.g. WAV, WMA, M4A) to an MP3 file. Video files can also be converted to MP3. This is possible with the Online Audio Converter or other special programs (e.g. with the "Video to MP3 Converter" app). The file then only contains the audio track.

For many conversion processes, if a larger range of functions is required or if there are data protection concerns (the above-mentioned providers require the files to be uploaded to the provider's servers), we recommend using a special conversion program. The Switch Audio Converter is a high-quality - but not free - alternative. In order to have an MP3 as text, the audio file must be transcribed. In addition to the MP3 format, you can also submit all other common audio and video formats to us.
